What is it?The Thermage® system is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that can smooth, tighten and contour skin on the face and body. Thermage can provide subtle skin firming right away as it contracts the collagen fibers. Thermage has also been FDA-cleared for the temporary improvement of cellulite by boosting circulation and stimulating collagen growth, which creates the look of smoother skin.
How does it work?
Thermage® uses radiofrequency technology to heat the deep, collagen-rich layers of the skin, while the tip vibrates and cools the surface to help aid in patient comfort. The applied heat separates the water molecules from the fibrous collagen, causing an immediate contraction, resulting in skin tightening. Over the next few months, the secondary healing response continues as collagen is deposited and remodeled. The new collagen growth tightens the skin further over time for smoother, tighter skin after just one treatment, with continued improvement for up to six months.

You’ll feel gentle vibration as the device heats the deep layers of your skin, followed by a cooling sensation. The combination of vibration and cooling should help mitigate the discomfort from the heat—but your doctor should keep checking in with you to ensure you get an effective treatment, without too much pain.
Each session typically takes between 30 minutes and two hours, depending on the location, size, and condition of the area being treated. On average, body areas can take 90 minutes or more, while the face and neck take 60 minutes. Treating eyelids alone takes just 30.
