Botox® Migraine

What is migraine?

More than just a case of “really bad headaches,” migraine is a neurological condition that can cause multiple symptoms include:

  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • difficulty speaking
  • numbness or tingling
  • sensitivity to light and sound

While the attacks could range from mild, moderate to severe, some experience migraine so intense and frequent that it is debilitating and disrupting their daily life.

Though it affects roughly 1 billion people globally and is the third most common illness in the world, migraine is treatable and manageable.

At 67 Degrees Cosmetic Clinic, we offer Botox Migraine to address chronic migraines. This Health Canada approved treatment has proven to be effective for over 20 years.

How does it work?

Neuromodulators such as Nuceiva and Botox contain Botulinum Toxin Type A which is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The toxin reduces the release of acetylcholine, a chemical messenger that causes muscle contractions. It is a safe and effective drug for cosmetic and medical purposes.

Botulinum neurotoxin is taken up into nerve endings around the injected area where it may interrupt the release of neurotransmitters that transmit pain signals and prevent activation of pain networks in the brain.

What are the benefits?

  • Relief of pain
  • Reduced frequency and duration of migraine attacks
  • Attacks are less severe
  • The tolerance to triggers is higher
  • Safe with no downtime

Frequently asked questions.

Below is more information you need to know about this treatment.

It may take four weeks or more after treatment before you see a reduction in the frequency of your migraines, and more than one set of injections may be needed.

Using a very small needle, botulinum toxin is injected into the tiny muscles under your skin throughout various areas around your face, head and neck by a licensed specialist.

Common injection sites are forehead, temples, and the back of head and neck. Sometimes the specialist will inject areas called “trigger points” where the headache pain originates.

It can take several weeks and multiple treatments before you start experiencing relief from your migraines. Some patients find they can discontinue injections without frequent migraines returning. Others need regular treatments to keep migraines under control.

The treatments are approved for select people age 18 and older who experience 15 or more migraine days per month.
